Self-Centeredness Is Lethal . . .

God-Centeredness Is Life Giving.

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All sin is lethal. It is never anything less. It is only by the grace and mercy of God that the judgment of some of us has been delayed long enough for us to trust Christ. We ought to consider the nature of the poison we ingest by sinning and the danger we expose ourselves to. Often we do not recognize how evil and harmful it is. We take our sin far too lightly. The sin we most often take too lightly is self-centeredness and selfishness. Self-centeredness overvalues self and undervalues God.

Oswald Chambers: Beware of allowing self-consciousness to continue because by slow degrees it will awaken self-pity, and self-pity is Satanic.

Self-pity is a denial of God*s love and care. An unbeliever has rejected God*s love and care and has no first-hand experience of those wonderful things. Self-pity is a somewhat more understandable attitude for him than it is for a Christian. It should never be a Christian*s attitude.

Exodus 20:7: Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Taking God*s name in vain is the opposite of worship.
Taking God*s name in vain is not giving Him His rightful place in one*s heart and life.
Taking God*s name in vain is speaking evil of Him.
Taking God*s name in vain is invoking Him to do evil.
Taking God*s name in vain is thinking, speaking and living irreverently toward Him.
Taking God*s name in vain means thinking, speaking or living as if God is impotent.
Taking God*s name in vain means thinking, speaking or living as if God is irrelevant.
Taking God*s name in vain means thinking, speaking or living as if God does not exist.
Taking God*s name in vain is holding Him in contempt.
Taking God*s name in vain is a lack of devotion to Him.
Taking God*s name in vain is rebelling against Him.
Taking God*s name in vain does not give Him the glory due His name.

Colossians 1:18: And he (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

He should have preeminence in our thoughts, words and actions.
