Serve The LORD With GladnessPsalms 100:2: Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
There is a superior gladness in serving the Lord that cannot be found elsewhere. The passage implies that we might choose to serve with a different attitude, sadness. As I was attempting to do something for the Lord recently, I was serving the Lord with sadness because someone that I expected to help me didn*t. There was a surge of gladness when the Lord reminded me that I am responsible only for my actions, not the actions of others. Peter was responsible for his actions and John was responsible for his.John 21:21: Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
Every servant of God is responsible for his own service.Romans 14:4: Who art thou that judgest another man*s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
It is weak believers that serve the Lord with sadness. I have often been a weak believer.Nehemiah 8:10: Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
When we are serving the Lord we are never serving alone even though there may be no human help in sight. It is wonderful to serve with other believers, but sometimes God is our only helper. He is always sufficient.1 Corinthians 3:9: For we are labourers together with God: ye are God*s husbandry, ye are God*s building.
When I felt I was laboring alone I was sad. I need to remember what a great and glad privilege it is to serve with God as our partner. I trust you will remember that you have that privilege too. Sometimes He includes other believers in the labor and sometimes He does not. But as we serve Him we are never alone.Matthew 28:20: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Hebrews 13:5: Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
