1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing.
Pray without ceasing sounds impossible. We ought to pray many prayers but just one at a time. That is within our reach. We ought to pray so many prayers that they follow close on the heels of the one before. We should do what is possible for us to do. If we pray without ceasing we will take everything to the Lord no matter how important or insignificant it is to us. We can pray now, not five minutes from now. Planning to pray five minutes from now would not be praying without ceasing. Five minutes from now is always out of reach. All we ever have is the moment we are in. Prayer is always possible. It is never out of reach. We can only speak to our mates and friends when we are with them or on the telephone. God is with us all the time. Why not talk to Him? God is more important to us than our mates and friends. Isn*t He??
Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised.
He deserves our attention 24/7 but all we can give is a moment at a time. Each moment that we don*t give Him is giving Him less than he deserves.
Romans 12:12: Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
We should be quick to pray and quick to act.
Ephesians 6:18: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
We can*t be thinking of all of the saints at one time, but as we think of them one at a time we can pray for them.
I love the short prayers recorded in the Bible. Technically, these people weren*t praying without ceasing.
Luke 17:13: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
Matthew 14:30: But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
Mark 9:24: And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Luke 17:5: And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
Each of our prayers should be like one sentence in a book. God will hear them now and they will one day ascend before Him in heaven.
Revelation 8:4: And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel*s hand.
Since Christ lives in our hearts our contact with Him is unceasing. I believe that when we are filled with the Spirit our lives are like unceasing prayers. The ceasings are when we walk in the flesh.
