Small Disobedience Of A Great God

Deuteronomy 22:6-7: If a bird*s nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young: But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.

Why on earth would someone*s longevity and the quality of their life be dependent on their treatment of a wild bird on a nest and her young? Why is such a small thing a concern to a great God?

Things that seem insignificant to us are important to God. Things that are important to us are insignificant to Him. As we live and walk and make decisions we cannot see all that God sees or know all that He knows. We are more totally dependent upon Him and His direction than we can imagine. Two people eating the fruit from the wrong tree seems like an insignificant thing. But it revealed disobedience to God. It was rebellion. Rebellion is the issue. God is the issue. Obedience to Him is the issue. His greatness is the issue. The specific action of disobedience and rebellion against God can be almost unnoticeable in significance. We can demonstrate our rebellion in small ways or great ways. Small rebellion against a great God is great rebellion.

Psalms 37:23: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Steps can be small things. I can take a step of one inch or less. Athletes broad-jump more than 20 feet. We should submit our tiniest steps and our longest leaps to the control of the Lord. Our steps can go in any direction, in any of 360 degrees. Only God can get us to the right place at the right time. We can only handle one step at a time.

When complexities overwhelm us we can simply ask Him: What one thing shall I do next? He promises to order our steps if we are a good man or woman. (A good man or woman is one who has been made a new [good] creature by God.) Please stop and think what a fantastic thing it is to have the Almighty Creator of everything ordering your tiny little baby steps. Doing one thing at a time is easy when that one thing is what He wants. A journey of a lifetime begins with one step and happens one step at a time.

John 10:27: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Hebrews 12:1-2a: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;

2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

One step at a time. One thought at a time.
