Submit Yourselves Unto Love

Ephesians 5:22: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Submitting ourselves to the Lord is what all men, women and children should do. God is love therefore what we do when we submit ourselves to Him is submit ourselves to love.

1 John 4:8: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

God*s kind of love is the greatest love. God is infinite. Since God is infinite it follows that His love is also infinite.

Psalms 147:5: Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia definition:

Infinite: Psalms 147:5 is the only passage in which the term is directly applied to God. It there correctly conveys the idea of absence of all limitation. There is nothing beyond the compass of God*s understanding; or, positively, His understanding embraces everything there is to know. Past, present and future; all things possible and actual; the inmost thoughts and purposes of man, as well as his outward actions, lie bare to God*s knowledge.

Psalms 145:3: Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Isaiah 40:28: Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Romans 11:33: O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

God and His knowledge are so great that they cannot be measured or fully understood by human beings. His love is far greater than self-love. Apart from God we humans have a limited and warped view of love. We think of love as something that provides what we want. God*s love provides what we need. To us there is an unknowable difference between what we want and what we need. What we need is known only by God Himself.

A baby does not know what he needs as well as his parents do. The difference between our knowledge and God*s knowledge is far greater than the difference between the knowledge of a baby and a parent. A baby only knows that he wants to be comfortable and satisfied NOW. A parent knows that it takes time to provide a warm bottle, a dry diaper and years of nurturing to provide everything the baby needs. Virtually all of these things are unknown to the baby. A baby is helpless to provide for himself what he needs or even what he wants. We humans are worse off than a new-born baby when it comes to knowing what we need spiritually or providing it. I believe what Jesus told Peter also applies to the rest of us:

John 13:7: Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

Not submitting ourselves and every decision to the Lord is evidence of unbelief. If we do not submit ourselves to Him we remain cut off from the only One who knows what we need and has the power to meet our need. There is another precious and immeasurable commodity that we forfeit when we do not submit ourselves to the Lord:

Philippians 4:7: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
