The Greatest Gulf In EternityJohn 1:11: He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
The space between John 1:11 and John 1:12 is just a tiny space, but it becomes the greatest gulf that will ever exist.
Luke 16:22-26: And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham*s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
There is a river about 20 miles west of my home town in North Dakota that flows into the Missouri river, then the Mississippi and then into the Gulf of Mexico. There is also a river about 12 miles east of my home town that flows into the Red River of the north and up to Hudson Bay in Canada. There are many hilltops where raindrops can fall an inch or two apart and by the time they reach their destinations, the distance between them will grow from an inch or two to thousands of miles.
Those who do not receive Jesus will end up in the place of torments, the Lake of Fire. Those who receive Him will end up in the Paradise of Heaven. Raindrops have no choice about which side of a hill they fall on. But we men are given a choice. We can reject Jesus or we can receive Him. We need to get on the right side of the gulf before it becomes too wide.
