The Washing Of Regeneration
Revelation 1:5: And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
1 John 3:14: We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
An individual who has not been regenerated has not passed from death unto life, he has not been washed from his sins and he has not been saved. Water baptism is a work. That eliminates it from being the means of salvation. And it is only a work of righteousness if the one baptizing and the one desiring to be baptized have been regenerated. If they have not been regenerated water baptism is not even a work of righteousness, it is as a filthy rag.
Isaiah 64:6: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Becoming a child of God, being born again, being born of the Spirit, being born of God and being regenerated are phrases that speak of the same event and the same work of God.
John 3:3: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
John 1:13: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
1 John 3:9: Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
If there was any water involved in salvation, it would not be the water that the woman at the well gave to Jesus, it would be the living water that He gave her. It would be spiritual water.
John 4:7: There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
H2O does not spring up into everlasting life. It is made up of dead chemicals. The only life that is in it is bacterial and is not eternal life. It is physical life and not spiritual life. Water and those who apply it are for many substitutes for God. They are idols. Belief in a God who would not and has not regenerated us is vain faith.
