Three Kinds Of Forgiveness
Imaginary, saving and cleansing are three kinds of forgiveness. Imaginary forgiveness is the work of man. Saving and cleansing forgiveness are the miraculous work of God alone.
Saving forgiveness is what God gives to an individual when He regenerates them. This saving work of God has not been performed on anyone who has not been regenerated (born again).
Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Cleansing forgiveness is what God gives only to those who have been regenerated, sin afterwards and confess it. This work of God is unavailable to those who have not been born again.
1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The *we* and the *us* are those who have been regenerated. John calls them My little children which could be translated *born ones.*
1 John 2:1: My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
Regenerated, born again, saved, converted and becoming a child of God are simply a few different descriptions of the same action taken by God upon an individual.
Imaginary forgiveness is all that a person can have who has not been regenerated. It accomplishes nothing of spiritual value. It accomplishes nothing beyond a good feeling. One might forgive himself but that does not necessarily mean that God has forgiven him. Other mortal men may forgive him but that does not guarantee that God has. One who has not been regenerated has not experienced God*s saving forgiveness and cannot experience God*s cleansing forgiveness.
