Trust The Eternal Let Go Of The Temporary

Job 12:20: He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.

There have been people that the Lord has given me to depend upon for a long time. They have given me much wisdom. But we need to depend upon the Lord rather than those that he sends us. Even though the Lord has sent them into our lives, they are temporary. God is permanent. I have been disappointed when the Lord removed someone from my life that has been a blessing to me. But we need to recognize that every blessing comes from the Lord Himself. When the Lord removes one source of blessing from our lives He replaces it with a better one, often a more direct one. He knows when to remove one blessing from our lives and replace it. Sometimes He does that when one who blesses us gets old. Sometimes He does that by moving one who has blessed us geographically. Sometimes He does that when we become too dependent upon someone other than Himself.

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

I have known many that were wise all of their lives. But for some, as time passes they become unwise and illogical. For some it happens gradually while for others it happens quickly.

When those we trust are wise they will encourage us to trust in the Lord rather than in them. John the Baptist had that wisdom.

John 3:30: He must increase, but I must decrease.

When I became a Christian I joined a wonderful church with a wonderful pastor. He was a very important part of my spiritual education and growth. After a few short years the Lord led him to another ministry. It involved some travel and he would occasionally speak in the area where I lived. I asked him to let me know when he would be speaking within an hour*s drive or so that I might come and hear him. He very sternly pointed a finger at me and said your place is in this church. He had spent about 14 years building that church and certainly didn*t want his leaving to damage it.
