Unfaithful In A Very Little

Luke 19:17: And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

Believers are rewarded for a very little. I am happy about that because often all I can do is very little. Very little things get Christians going in the right direction and keep them going that way. Sadly, the opposite is also true. Little sins get us going in the wrong direction and keep us going that way. When we are faithful in a very little we get great rewards. When we are unfaithful in a very little we suffer great loss.

We do not determine what constitutes a great sin or a little sin. What determines the littleness or greatness of sin is the greatness of God. Little offenses against our Great God are great offenses because they separate us from our Great God, just as much as what we consider great offenses.

Isaiah 59:2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

The passage does not make a distinction between little sins and iniquities and great ones. One snowflake starts an avalanche. One crack in a dam can become a gaping hole. Recently, there have been several occasions when I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to turn off the TV. Several times I have neglected to turn it off for a few minutes. I have sinned against the Lord in greater ways too. But what I think of as a little sin separates me from God and starts me downhill. If the spiritual downhill movement is not stopped I can go a long way down in a short time.

Proverbs 28:13: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The forgiveness of sin starts me going uphill spiritually. The spiritual uphill movement can be just as rapid as the downhill.

Psalms 147:15: He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.

The Lord blesses me greatly when I respond quickly to the urges of the Holy Spirit, even when my response is simply to turn off the TV. He can move very quickly. When there is nothing between Him and me, He can move me very quickly too.

Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Seeking the Kingdom of God first is not just seeking it first chronologically. It is seeking the Kingdom first, period. It is seeking the Kingdom only. When I seek the kingdom of God first with no concern for these things, the King gives me unexpected things. He gives me a clean slate. He gives me a new start in the right direction. He repairs a chink in my armor. He repairs a crack in my dam. He blows away a snowflake so it won*t cause an avalanche. He gives me His thoughts instead of my own. Often all we can give Him is one moment at a time anyway. Because we have a great God, just giving Him one moment at a time and one thought at a time are great things.

Luke 19:17: And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
