I Thessalonians 2:11-14: As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
God has a purpose for everyone that He calls into His kingdom. Those who have not responded to His call have no further choice in this matter. They cannot walk worthy of Him. Their only option is walking worthy of Satan. Even if they appear to do the same things as Christians their motivation nullifies their actions. They are guided by their master, Satan, who wishes to produce counterfeits. Many times we believers do not walk worthy of Him, but we have the privilege of doing that. The question is will we hear or not hear these words from the Lord: Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
Being called unto his kingdom and glory is a wonderful privilege and honor! Walking worthy of Him will come easier when we are properly thankful for what He has done for us and when we recognize it is all an undeserved gift. There are steps involved in walking and those steps will be away from sin. All of them should be directed by the Lord.
John 8:11b: . . . go, and sin no more.
1 Corinthians 6:18: Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
1 Corinthians 10:14: Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
1 Timothy 6:11: But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
2 Timothy 2:22: Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Psalms 37:23: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
Luke 9:23: And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Psalm 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
I John 1:7: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
To walk in the light is to live in fellowship with the Father and the Son. Sin interrupts, but confession restores that fellowship. Immediate confession keeps that fellowship unbroken.
