We Need Love
Without love babies get sick and die, children grow up to be heartless criminals, teenagers become rebels, friendships become enmity, marriages die, elderly folk wither away and Christians become hardened. Some never experience love, some isolate themselves from it. Some seem to believe that loving themselves is enough. Some seek substitutes for it. Some seek it where it doesn*t exist. When a man needs water he goes to a well, a pump or a fountain. When unbelievers need love they go to the world for it. Sadly, even Christians do that. It cannot be found in the world. It cannot be found in godless individuals or organizations. You cannot get very much of it from a backslidden Christian. Love can only be found in individuals who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and groups of people who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
It should be easy to recognize unbelievers. They are joyless, contentious, impatient, harsh, lack goodness, faithless, lack meekness and are intemperate. It should be easy to know where to find love.
Sick at heart? Need love? Pray, spend time with the Lord, call a Christian, visit a Christian, go to a Christian church or lead someone to Christ. I don*t believe anyone loves me more than those who have received Christ when I shared the gospel with them. They have personally experienced God*s love for the first time and they have loved someone else with the love of God for the first time. What a delight to be the recipient of that! The Lord is glorified and others are blessed when we do those things. And who else benefits from doing them? Us. Love coming to us is a blessing. Love coming to us and going through us is a double blessing. Love coming to us, going through us and then coming back to us is a triple blessing.
