What We Should Think About

Philippians 4:8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Proverbs 23:7: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: . . .

In the Christian life, what we think about is extremely important.

Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

A renewed mind will make every effort to think about God and what He wants us to think about.

2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

We should try to get rid of anything and everything that keeps us from knowing God and thinking about Him. He never stops thinking about us. There are some six billion people living on earth today. He thinks about all of us all of the time and at the same time.

Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Matthew 10:29-30: Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Acts 27:34b: . . . for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

We cannot and do not keep track of how many hairs we have. God keeps track of every hair on all six billion heads. He knows when one hair falls out, when we pull one out or when we shave them off. He also created the inside of our heads and knows everything that goes on there. He knows every thought that all six billion of us will ever think.

Psalms 139:2: Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

He knows every sin that all six billion of us have ever committed or will ever commit and He loves us and wants to forgive us anyway. It is amazing that He always wants to love us and is always able to!

Romans 8:38-39: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Since He is always thinking about us and loving us, we owe it to Him to be thinking about Him. Even the very best of Christians don*t think about Him enough. And they don*t think of Him highly enough. More than ninety percent of our problem is in our thought life.

2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Bringing every thought into captivity is a lofty goal. It is such a lofty goal that we will never reach it in this life. But we can reach the goal more often than we think. One of the things about us that He changes when He makes into new creatures is what we want to think about. When we think about Him a little bit, we are blessed a little bit. The more we think about Him, the more we are blessed. Although we cannot think about Him 24/7, we can LIKE to think about Him. We can WANT to think about Him. We are to be different from those with reprobate minds.

Romans 1:28: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

When we think about the Lord, His words and His works, we will get understanding.

Psalm 119:99: I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

Luke 10:27: And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

If we are to love God with all of our heart, soul, strength and mind, we need to think about Him. Our problem is that we forget about Him. Forgetting about Him gets disastrous results.

Judges 3:7: And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

1 Samuel 12:9: And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

Psalms 106:21-26: They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; 22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea. 23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. 24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: 25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. 26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

Psalms 9:17: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
