Words

Sticks and stones can break my bones but words cannot harm me. False! Words are dangerous. They can do more harm than any weapon known to man.

What kind of words do you speak? The words you speak can impact you and those who hear them in a far greater way than you realize. What kind of words do you listen to? The words you hear can also impact you in a far greater way than you realize.

If you listen to the Words of God they will lead you to life-giving faith in Him.

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If you listen to the words of Satan they will lead you to death-causing faith in him. Keep in mind that Satan controls most of the media today. Adam and Eve*s first mistake was listening to the words of Satan. Their second mistake was giving credibility to those words. Their third mistake was acting on them. The wise old Sunday School song should be obeyed: Oh be careful little hands what you do, Oh be careful little lips what you speak, Oh be careful little ears what you hear.

Jeremiah 9:4-5: Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders. And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

The way to defeat Satan*s words is with God*s Word. If you do not know God*s Word you give Satan a tremendous advantage. Even Jesus used God*s Words to defeat Satan:

Matthew 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matthew 4:7: Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Matthew 4:10: Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Idle Words

Matthew 12:36: But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Wasted Words

Proverbs 23:9: Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Matthew 7:6: Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Proverbs 9:8: Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

Damaging Words

Ephesians 5:6: Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Job 15:5: For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.

Jeremiah 5:31: The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

Isaiah 59:2-3: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.

Excessive Words

Proverbs 10:19: In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

Ecclesiastes 5:3: For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool*s voice is known by multitude of words.

Ecclesiastes 5:7: For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.

Ecclesiastes 10:11-14: Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better. The words of a wise man*s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

Lying Words

Romans 16:17-18: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Colossians 2:4: And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

Romans 16:18: For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Words Reveal Our Nature

Psalms 10:4-7: The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them. He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity. His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

Life-Giving Words

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

1 Peter 1:23: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1 Corinthians 1:17: For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

1 Corinthians 2:4: And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man*s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Isaiah 45:23: I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

John 8:32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Controlled Words

Psalms 141:3: Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

James 3:2: For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Helpful Words

Proverbs 25:11: A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Proverbs 15:23: A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

Isaiah 50:4: The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Two Sources Of Words

Matthew 12:34: O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

James 3:6: And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Exodus 4:11: And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man*s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?

Not Enough Words

Proverbs 18:13: He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

John 7:51: Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

Deuteronomy 1:17: Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God*s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

Deuteronomy 19:15: One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

Power Of Words

James 3:6: And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Proverbs 16:27: An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

Condemning Words

Job 15:6: Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

Job 9:20: If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

Luke 19:22: And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

Matthew 12:37: For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
